BIO
Elektra is a five-year-old bay roan mare out of Devil’s Garden. In April 2025, she came to us from a rescue in Santa Rosa called Spirit Wings Ranch and we have since continued her training here at Montgomery Creek. Our trainers love Elektra for her laid back and forgiving disposition. She has more “whoa than go” and is a friendly, in-your-pocket type horse. She still needs to learn some more finesse in her arena work, but she is quickly gaining confidence on the trail.
elektra’s STORY
Elektra hails from a place as formidable as it is beautiful. Early settlers called it “Devils Garden” for its lava-strewn ground, sparse forage, and twisted juniper forests—terrain so rugged it looked, to them, like a place only the devil could cultivate. For generations, wild horses have called it home, but their herd is under constant siege. To accommodate private livestock operations on public lands, the U.S. Forest Service has rounded up wild horses in Devils Garden nearly every year—drastically reducing their numbers.
